I am writing a memoir.
There, I said it. I put it out there.
My future writing, is now in writing.
It is my promise to myself. And my promise to you. I’m not sure which promise has more merit, so I am putting them together.
I have a story to tell. Many stories in fact. This is a story of my life as a twin, having a twin sister with a disability. A disability that didn’t always exist. This is our story of before and after that fateful day. The day a car accident altered the path.
Of my sister’s life. And mine.
We are twins. Twins have a sacred bond. No twin is left behind. We endure. Together.
On that day, August 30th, 1992. we were 18 years old. Just days shy of starting our first-year university. Everything stopped. Change of plans.
There is a before and after. Before the accident and after. A definitive line in the sand.
I can not tell you my story without telling hers. Our stories are intertwined – our threads are woven so neatly together – it would be near impossible to know where my string ends and hers begins. Our threads are stitched in harmony, each one binding to another, producing a fabric strong enough to endure all of life’s pain and loss and love and triumphs.
This story will share tales of friendship without conditions, love that is infinite, humility that is endless, perseverance that is inexhaustible, and protection that never ceases to be, and patience that knows no limits, and humour in the most unusual places. And more. So much more.
I want to tell this story. Stories of healing and hope.
These stories will move you – to laughter, to tears, to quiet reflection. I hope you will feel all of it and then feel it again.
I am writing a memoir.
I promise me. I promise you.
With gratitude, always.

Thanks so much, Lisa. I fully agree. Everyone has a story – evolving chapters in our unique book of life.
